About Birdwatching Enthusiast

My earliest memories of family time away are of being in the bushveld of South Africa or at the KwaZulu Natal coast. Waking up to the sounds of birds, or listening to them gather and settle for the night – something I will never forget.

The surprises that our backyards spring upon us, of unexpected sightings of birds, or of hearing a new bird call, luring us outside to see if we can discover which magnificent feathered friend is gracing us with its presence, still continues to delight me.

My Mom used to point out birds to us on our travels. The power of memories stored from long ago, unexpectedly brought to the surface is a wondrous gift. There are times when I spot a bird, dare name it and then hurry to look it up, surprising myself when I have guessed it correctly!

Thanks Mom, for instilling this wonderous love for nature in me.
